With mixed feelings…

I finished these wedding ring cookies today for Joy…

wedding ring2

She’s hosting a bridal shower at Tea and Crumpets,

a delightful little luncheon place in downtown Huntington.

I loved talking with her about her cookies…

how she found out about me,

the cookies she wanted,

how they would be packaged,

and a few details about the event she was hosting…

I totally love these conversations… and

I love delighting people with cookies for their party…

or gift… or wedding…

BUT…

I have decided to quit the cookie biz.

I want to paint.

And I can’t do everything I have to do in my life + cookies + paint.

So, of course, I’ll do the orders I’ve committed to…

and if you’ve talked to me about an order, but

 we haven’t finalized the details,

I’ll do those, too…

because I’m such a nice person;)

And, of course, I’ll be completing the cookie classes

that are scheduled,

but I don’t plan to schedule any more.

A huge THANK YOU

to all of my customers, students, and supporters…

I love you all.

Win, Win, Win!!

If you’re like me,

you look for Kim’s daily update on Maggie…

Maggie Easter

She’s done sooo well!!!

AND so has her mom, Kim:)

But they’re not finished yet…

Several more months of out-of-town trips for treatments…

Kim will be missing work…

and have many extra expenses…

Soooo in order to help them out…

Art for the Soul will be donating 100% …

of all cookie class proceeds to Maggie…

PLUS…

I’m adding a Cookie Decorating 103 class…

I’m going to teach some VERY COOL cookie skills…

like using molds with fondant for cookie embellishments…

vintage wedding shower         purple and gray bridal

It’s fun and makes amazing looking cookies!

Plus I have a fondant recipe that is FABULOUS!

Check out the WORKSHOPS page to get all the info…

And please tell your friends, family, co-workers, church family, neighbors..

Well…just everyone…let’s help Maggie and her family;)

I’m so happy to be back:)

I’ve taken a little break from the cookie world.

I’ve only filled two cookie orders in three months,

but I’ve had three classes…

One class was for MAGGIE!!

Maggie,  her devoted mom, Kim, and our friend,

Tammy, and her daughter, Reagan

came to my house on St. Patrick’s Day

to make cookies!!!

It was sweet;)

Cookie Cutters…

“Where do you get your cookie cutters?”

I get asked that a lot:)

And here’s the total answer…

First I like to buy local at craft stores and Vicky’s Party Store in Milton,

ALSO…I often reshape cutters to create what I want/need…

like this cheerleader cutter to a pumpkin with a stem and leaf…

cc3cc2

First, I draw my shape on paper,

Then I cut the cutter with metal clippers,

Lastly the hard part, I use needle-nose pliers to bend and shape the very stubborn metal strip,

all the while constantly comparing my evolving new cutter to my drawing.

Good luck…

IN ADDITION, I sometimes make a template from cardstock…

and with a very sharp knife I hand-cut each cookie…

like I did with 30 Kitchen Aid Mixer cookies recently…

notice there’s a cut-out part in the interior of the cookie;)

btw… I found this cutter online,

but I didn’t want to spend $30 + shipping.

AND sometimes I create a cookie by combining parts of cutters…

like with this bib cookie…

It’s a simple flower cookie with the “neck” cut out with part of another cutter…

French Countryside Cookies3

Lastly, sometimes I order cutters online…

My very favorite on line store is

Whisked Away Cutters,

Here’s a cookie I did from her cutter, The Michelle Plaque.

I’m going to school:)

I’m 57 and I’m going back to school…

the truth is…

I’ve been “in school” since I started kindergarten.

After college, I taught school…

and I took about a million hours in graduate classes…

to be a better teacher…

Then, I quit teaching 2 1/2 years ago to be an artist…

You’d think my school days were over…(I did;)…

not hardly…

Because…

I’ve really had to STUDY to learn the different art skills I wanted to know:

making stamped metal jewelry, and cookie and cake art.

Now, I want to be a painter…

So…

In 2015…

I’m going to study painting…

with books, DVD’s, workshops, YouTube videos…

with painters whose work I really love…

like Joyce Hicks.

I’m going back to school…

It’s going to be scary, and difficult, exciting, and boring…

and occasionally when I have a painting that I like…

I’ll show it here:)

Gift Certificates and a PayPal button

paypal

I love when I figure out how to do something…

that I’ve tried numerous times and can’t get…

Well, I just added a Paypal button to my WORKSHOP page…

to simplify buying a gift certificate…Oh…

And I added buying a gift certificate option for purchasing a cookie class…

But the Paypal button…that had really confused me…

But I got it!!!

Maggie

I would never have dreamed…

that I’d have taught 10 cookie classes this fall…

with 2 more on my calendar for December…

And it all started because Maggie needed support…

for her fight against neuroblastoma.

Maggie

I’ve had a lot of people ask me about Maggie…

she’s had 5 rounds of chemo…

and undergone surgery to remove the tumor surrounding her adrenal glands…

she still faces a bone marrow transplant and more chemo.

Maggie’s wish, a trip to Disney World, is being granted this month.

She and her parents have been through so much,

and they’re very grateful for all the support from everyone.

Vinny

Jill and her family are HUGE Marshall fans.

They tail-gate in a green and white motor-home, the Thundering Herd Mobile.

You get the picture;)

She’s ordered my cookies several times,

including a gift set for Vinny Curry…

#75 VINNY CURRY

If you don’t know, Vinny plays defensive end

for the Philadelphia Eagles…

following a successful college football career at Marshall.

Jill and her family are very close to Vinny,

Last weekend they went to Philly to visit him,

watch an Eagles game, and …

Jill being Jill she wanted to take him a gift;)…

She asked me to create a painting from this photo…

picture of Vinny

I thought it would make a great oil painting…

but I’m not an oil painter…yet…

so I did it in pastels (colored chalk)…

I hope he likes it:)

A Fall Wedding

Sharon and Roy were high school sweethearts a few years back…

Over 30 years later they reconnected…

rekindled their love and decided to marry.

Sharon is a teacher a Spring Hill Elementary,

and has been there for… a long time…

She and Roy decided that would be a great place for them to marry.

The wedding was yesterday in the gym.

I taught there, too…

so Sharon asked me to create a cake and cupcakes for the reception…

She wanted a painted cake with fall leaves…

and I thought a little chalkboard (made out of royal icing, of course)…

would be the perfect topper…
