30 Paintings in 30 Days!

Mug and Pia Painting1

Yes, I know you’ve seen this before…

It’s the VERY adorable shop, Mug and Pia

Did you know that stands for…

Most Unusual Gifts and Paper Items Anywhere?

A for Adorable!!

I painted this precious little place last year…

and this one of Trinity Episcopal Church.

Trinity Episcopal ChurchBut because of cookie classes…

and other pressing issues,

I had to stop last year’s 30 in 30.

but today I DID START my NEW

30 paintings in 30 days…

I drove ALL OVER HUNTINGTON this morning…

stopping to photograph probably 50 different buildings…

and other things, like fountains…

DSC_0209

You may have seen me in the middle of 3rd Ave or 4th or 5th…

That was me in the center of Hal Greer Boulevard,

DSC_0240

and Washington Blvd…

and dozens of other places.

And honestly I had a blast.

I’m going to be painting not just iconic symbols

of our beautiful city,

but also houses that

we’ve all seen hundreds of times,

or that represent an area and an era of Huntington.

DSC_0001

(My husband: You took a picture of that?!

Me: YES! It screams, “Split-level, 1960’s, Southeast Hills-Huntington”…

and look at that cute little fence!

He didn’t get it. That’s why I didn’t take him with me;)

Yes, I LOVE cute, beautiful or unique homes,

stately, ornate and magnificent buildings.

I so enjoyed selecting these places to photograph,

and I CAN NOT WAIT to start painting them!!

I’ll start posting paintings on October 1.

40 Year High School Reunion

Last night

I celebrated my 40 year HEHS class reunion.

and fortunately for me…

I got to help plan what we termed our “Beach Party”…

Beach Party because we rented beach decorations

from one of my cookie customers!!

She lent us BOXES of GORGEOUS candle holders,

shells, mermaids, grasses, seagulls, and on and on…

BUT me being me…

I just naturally HAD TO find ways to create some art for the event.

Let me share my art creations and my inspirations.

Among the decorations was this sign…

Beautiful sign.

Inspiration #1

IMG_1689

Painted on a thin piece of cardboard with wood slats to stabilize…

This masterpiece (hehe:) greeted our classmates…

Our committee posted reunion updates via FB (of course)…

with a beach photo attached like this…

Purple Rabbits Step by Step

Earlier in the week

I told you I had a

Purple Rabbits Challenge.

And then I showed you

how I made purple rabbit cupcake toppers

And now…

the cookies!

Flooded cookie

First, I piped along the outer edge…

and flooded the cookie with thinner icing.

PR2

I held a stencil over the cookie…

(and instead of spraying on the design

like I did with the cupcake picks)

I spread thickened icing over the stencil.

PR3

Last, I added a few details.

Easy Peasy;)

PR4

Decorated cookies are AMAZING…

and delicious…

but they’re truly not hard to do.

If you’re interested,

I still have spots

in my November and December workshops.

PR5

These are bagged, boxed,

and ready for the party!

Thanks for following along,

Linda

Purple Rabbits

Today’s post is all about the purple rabbit cupcake pics!

I first drew a sketch of my cupcake pic

(should it be pic or pick??)

using my rabbit cutter as a guide…

Notice it’s messy.

I drew it too small and kept adjusting the size

until it was just right.

The triangle under the rabbit

goes into the cupcake.

I then positioned a sheet of parchment paper

on my cookie sheet with my sketch under it…

And piped icing to outline the rabbit…

I moved the sketch along to complete the row.

IMG_1836

I filled them with thinner icing called flood icing.

IMG_1847

And waited overnight.

Yes it’s hard, but you HAVE TO!

Today I stenciled a sweet design with my air brush machine.

and added a few details.

IMG_1850

Wa-la! …

adorable purple cupcake pics.

Yes, I know they’re not purple-purple…

I spoke to the hostess yesterday,

and she thought a lighter shade would be nice.

Tomorrow I’ll show you the cookie making.

btw… I’ve added a couple of classes

to the workshop schedule😉

Rabbits and Purple

I love a challenge…

and this one started like this…

“She likes rabbits and purple.”

(For a baby shower this Sunday)

So I asked if she wanted other baby items like, well, you know,

a bib, a stroller…

No.  Just rabbits and purple.

Ohhh, the challenge is on:

to make adorable cookie favors and cupcake pics

that are purple rabbits.

I sent the hostess a picture of my rabbit cutters…

and she picked the realistic rabbit (#2 from the left)…

(I made that cutter two years ago for Easter cookies.)

The rest is up to me.

I’ll keep you posted.

The Huntington Challenge

I’ve started again.

You may remember that this time last year,

I announced my participation in a painting challenge:

~30 Paintings in 30 Days~

And then COOKIE CLASSES happened!!

I started teaching cookie classes to raise money for my friend…

plus a few other BIG INTERRUPTIONS happened…

But I’m ready to have another go at it!!

VERY READY:)

 Once again I’ll be painting…

important, beautiful, or classic Huntington buildings or places.

Before, I asked for you to tell me places to paint,

and you gave me tons of ideas.

I went out several different days and took photographs

from the East End to the West End…all over!

I’ll use many of those,

in fact, I did with this painting…

MU fountain
Marshall University Memorial Fountian

and this…

Old Main painting 5x7.2
Marshall University Old Main

But this time I’m asking for something different.

I’d like for you to email me photos that you’ve taken

of Huntington places you love…

It can be anything in Huntington.

If I create a painting from your photo,

I will send you a copy of the painting.

If I use the painting in a calendar or something else,

I will give you credit as the photographer.

Send the photos to-

artforthesoulwv@hotmail.com

And everyone who sends me a photo will…

be in a random drawing for something NICE;)

Make sure you give me your name.

Thanks!

I’m back, again:)

I announced my retirement from cookie art.

But then I HAD TO create a retirement set for Patty Kay…

margarita

Plus several people have asked for a cookie class!!!

And I miss it.

I still plan to focus my attention on painting…

but I really miss cookie art…

especially meeting woman that love cookie art…

So as the summer moves into fall,

I’m going to devote some time to cookies.

I’ll be taking a VERY limited number of orders,

and I’ve scheduled a class!

It’s a beginner’s class.

Check out my Workshops page!

Step by Step

I thought you might like to see a painting come to life:)

Here’s the final painting and the photo I used as my reference:

and then…

I decided to paint it again using a different perspective and…

a little more whimsy…

If you want a painting of your house:)

I’ll be adding a page on this website with all the details…

My Last Cookie Class…?

After my first cookie class in September,

I shared the surprise, pleasure, and sheer joy I felt

with my love of TEACHING cookie art.

I enjoyed even the basic teacher-prep-stuff:

the whole process of planning and preparing the lessons…

and of course I loved…

meeting and getting to know my students…

sharing my knowledge of cookie art…

and watching them having fun with cookies and icing:)

And I still feel the very same way.

I’m going to miss it.

Here are some photos from today’s class:)

This is the best that I can do…

a photo of some of the cookies I demo-ed

for my students to create…

It was a small group, only 5 ladies…

But we had ball…

and they each went home with…

12 cookies in 3 flavors that they decorated

with their newly acquired skills…

My last class is Saturday, June 20…
